Host municipalities pledge swift cleanliness of the routes

The two municipalities intimately involved with the hosting of the Mandela Day Marathon have pledged heightened cleanliness before, during and after the marathon.

Msunduzi Municipality which is the host of the flagship 42KM race, which starts at Manaye Hall in Imbali Township and uMngeni Municipality which has the 21.1 KM and 10 KM starting within its jurisdiction and the magnificent finish line at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site have upped their plans of keeping their routes clean, citing that the maintenance of the routes will include final assessment of the road network infrastructure as well as waste management.

As the bulk of the activities on race day take place under uMngeni Municipality, additional temporary personnel has been roped in over and above the permanent employees will clean the route prior to the marathon, again on race day including the finish line.

After the marathon, uMngeni Municipality will inspect and continue its cleanliness plan until 31 August, six days after the marathon.
