YOUNGEST 10KM RACE ENTRANT

“Esihle wants to inspire young people to look after themselves”

Thirteen-year-old Akhona Esihle Mlotshwa has been recorded in this year’s entries for the 10 KM race as the youngest participant who will join thousands of other athletes at the start of the race from the Howick West Indoor Sports Complex to the Mandela Capture Site.

Mlotshwa from KwaMnyandu in Pietermaritzburg said she will be running the Mandela Day Marathon for the first time this year.

“It’s my first time. I am an athlete and I enjoy exercising and I like doing sports activities,” said Mlotshwa adding that she wants to have fun on race day.

“I am not really taking part to win. I want to have fun and find people to run with on the day. My taking part in the race is to inspire other young people to look after themselves by keeping healthy and exercising,” added Mlotshwa.
